Budtenders are the people that give patients and customers all the knowledge they need to purchase cannabis safely. A Budtender is responsible for providing compassionate and exceptional customer service. Duties include welcoming customers, verifying their identification before taking orders, and processing payments. As a Budtender, you may recommend and select strains and product types for customers depending on their needs and cross-sell accessories from the smoke shop.
- Follow Mota Vated Policies and Procedures for daily operation.
- Acting as a steward of operational excellence and ensuring compliant practices in a highly-regulated industry.
- Adhere to the NM Cannabis Regulation Act, Erin & Lynn Compassionate Use Act, and HIPAA.
- Greet and welcome customers with natural energy and a smile as they arrive.
- Must be able to handle a fast-paced environment, Very active position, which requires standing for long periods.
- Maintain dispensary safety and security by following safety procedures and protocols.
- Checking customers' identification documents to verify that they are of legal age.
- Update patient and customer information as needed.
- Upselling and discount selling required
- Processing customers’ payments using the dispensary’s Point of Sale (POS) system
- Back-up front desk by answering, screening, and forwarding incoming phone calls.
- Offer advice on all strains and THC/CBD levels for daily sales on the sales floor.
- Educating customers on the safe use of their selected cannabis products.
- Advise customers on obtaining a New Mexico Medical Cannabis Card and provide appropriate forms.
- Correctly weigh, packaging, and labeling cannabis products as required.
- Taking inventory and restocking sales floor area, replenishing products.
- Assist patients with general questions and products.
- Ensuring that the dispensary is clean and well-organized at all times.
- Assist teammates as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & VERIFICATIONS
- High school diploma preferred
- Cannabis Establishment Technician
- HIPAA Certified
- Food Handlers Safety Certified (ANSI Approved)
- NM State, Federal or National, and i9 Background Verifications
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- 1-2 years of retail sales/cash handling/point of sales (POS) experience.
- 1-2 years of customer service.
- 1-2 years of actual retail or dispensary experience is preferred.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Must be able to work independently and to lead on tasks and in the store.
- Prior to retail, cash register, or dispensary-related experience, knowledge of BioTrack (POS) is a plus.
- Must be friendly, trustworthy, dependable, cheerful, hard-working and excellent with customers.
- Being bilingual is a plus.
- Flexible with schedule, able to work various assigned shifts, and to be on call.
